Autumn Term
English
This term we will be using a variety of texts as stimulus for our writing.
Tusk Tusk, Shine and Paolo are brilliant stories which we will use for 'retells'. Mrs Gregory gets to showcase her Italian accent when reading out Shine!
The Journal of Illiona is a cracking inspiration for writing our own Roman diaries while Pompei will spark some fantastic non-chronological reports. Finally Mr Hinett is excited to use Alice Eclair: Spy Extraordinary for character and setting descriptions.
Maths
We will be covering the following topics in our Maths lessons: place value of numbers up to 10,000; calculation including multiplication, addition and subtraction; area of 2d shapes.
Science
In science we will be learning about 'states of matter'. Mr Hinett is looking forward to getting the parachute out to demonstrate atoms in solids, liquids and gasses.
History
We are learning about Roman Britain, why they invaded and what they left behind. The story of Boudicca is a great opportunity for the children to analyse sources, sorry if afterwards they come home questioning everything they think to be true!
Geography
We are learning about Volcanoes. We love our day acting out Pompei linking to our Romans topic.
Art
We are learning about Henry Matisse and imitating his most famous pieces in a variety of ways.
Music
We are using the pentaglock, along with other percussion instruments, to learn about rhythm and notation.
Computing
We are learning about how the internet works before understanding audio recording and production.
Religious Education
We are using Jesus' stories to answer the question of 'What kind of world would Jesus want?' Before diving into 'What Hindus believe God is like?'
Physical Education
We will be exploring dance and every Friday we go swimming at Glossop Swimming Baths.
French
We will be learning about St Bernadette and the importance of Lourdes to Christians. We will retell the story of Goldilocks and the three bears in French.
