Welcome to Year 4,

 

Here on our year group page you will find an overview of this year's curriculum, termly subject areas and some helpful links to online homework. 

 

Please look out for our ClassDojo stories which will keep you updated on what is happening in school for our classes.

Autumn Term

 

English

This term, we are reading 'Pip and the Bamboo Path' and using it as inspiration to write our own narrative fiction.  Later we will be completing a formal debate all about plastic pollution in our local area as well as writing persuasive letters on the issue.

 

Maths

We will be covering the following topics in our Maths lessons: length and perimeter, formal multiplication and division and finally decimals. We are practising our times tables every day, ready for the multiplication test in June. Please encourage your child to use TT Rockstars as much as possible.

 

Science

We have been enjoying learning about electricity, making circuits and investigating conductors - shocking! Soon we will study teeth and eating, why we should take care of our teeth and learn about the functions of the digestive system. Finally we will learn about food chains.

 

Geography

We are learning about the Netherlands. We will learn map skills, and compare life in the Netherlands to the UK. 

 

Art

We are learning about Renaissance art particularly Leonardo Da Vinci, studying the Last Supper as it relates to Easter.

 

Music

We are using the pentaglock, along with other percussion instruments, to learn about rhythm and notation.

 

Computing

We are learning programming! An introduction to code using Logo, a text based programming language and later Scratch.

 

Religious Education

We are learning about the Pentecost, the Holy Trinity and why Easter is such a spiritual time for Christians.

 

Physical Education

We will be exploring dance and every Friday we go swimming at Glossop Swimming Baths.

 

French

We will be learning about St Bernadette and the importance of Lourdes to Christians. We will retell the story of Goldilocks and the three bears in French.
