Headteacher's Welcome

Our Vision

'Through experiences rooted in Christian Values and through mutual Respect, we guide children to develop Compassion, Responsibility and Resilience in a caring environment.'

Welcome to St Andrew's Church of England Junior School, and to our website. We hope you will be able to access all the information you need, but if you want to speak to us about anything, please contact school and we will be happy to help.

Our vision is at the heart of all we do and we hope that with your support, we can work together to ensure our children express courageous advocacy and contribute positively to the society in which they live.

Our curriculum, launched in September 2019, enables us to immerse our children in a bespoke curriculum perfectly tailored to meet all their needs.  We are proud to be a Global Education School through the LYFTA platform.  Our curriculum is based on Global Citizenship Goals and Christian Values which are at the heart of our teaching practice. It is important that our pupils gain a sense of social justice and express such with a confident, respectful voice.

Our church school has an extraordinary charm and ethos which holds the children at its core. St Andrew's is a community church school and our children are encouraged to contribute positively and with awareness of not only our school community, but the wider community in which they live. This year, the children will enjoy many opportunities to consider global issues and become conscious citizens for the future, including working towards the Archbishop of York's Young Leaders Award in Year 5.

We take a restorative approach to issues that arise through behaviour and this is being further developed so that children can take responsibility for their actions whilst developing self-awareness through reflection, empathy and compassion.

We are lucky to have a highly-skilled, committed team who strive for the utmost success for our children and who have a caring and supportive ethos at their heart. Our MACAWS provision, developed over the last five years, has proved to be an invaluable resource when supporting our children's mental health and general well-being. We understand that when our children feel safe and supported, they learn better too.

We have young Mental Health Champions and a Head Boy and Girl and their depuites who lead many of our annual festivals at St Andrew's Church.

It is our aim to build on these foundations and ensure that our school is forward thinking and ambitious within a supportive and safe environment. I fully appreciate how important each year of a child’s school life is towards preparing them for life.

I am passionate about teaching and have high expectations, not only for myself but for all members of our school community. We hope you will support our high expectations in all areas, especially in attendance and behaviour which naturally impacts greatly on achievement.

I will strive to ensure that our flourishing school supports children to be whole rounded individuals of strong character. I strongly believe that school is the opportunity for children to discover and unlock hidden talents in a fun and nurturing environment. Every child has the ability to do amazing things if a school provides the right opportunities.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries, concerns or there is anything we can do to help and support you with your child’s learning and school life.
