Science

We had a fantastic time looking around the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

Our next Science topic is 'Looking at States'. We will begin this topic towards the end of this term.

Thanks for sending in all of the recyclable materials, we have made some fantastic instruments. Science will continue to be taught in blocks to get the most out of experiments, discussions and write-ups.

Science investigation:

Over the last week we have been learning all about sound.

We know sound is all about vibrations. Sound can pass through Solids, Liquids and Gases but cannot pass through a vacuum as there are no particles to pass the vibrations onto.

We know to make a loud sound you need big vibrations and to make a quiet sound you need small vibrations. Pitch is all about the speed of vibrations; the faster the vibrations the higher the pitch.

After lots of investigation into sound we put all our knowledge together and created our own musical instruments to create mini 'Junk Yard' bands.

See some of our instruments below.

In Science we have started learning about pitch. To help us we have been using Boom whackers to investigate pitch.
